"Dwight brings earnest acoustic original songwriting, cosmopolitan influences, a cracking voice and a deep love for real life and real music." Sheffield A|C, Mar 2013

Born in Kuala Lumpur, Dwight grew up in neighbouring Singapore before moving to the UK to complete his tertiary education.

He was heavily influenced by his father's music of Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride and Jim Reeves.

In 1999, he released his first solo album in Singapore, entitled 'In Black & White'. The local music magazine - BigO, described him as a musician who "brought a breath of fresh air into the local scene, demonstrating a facility for melody that is sorely missed in many local songwriters...(with) the vocal ability to bring out the best out of his melodies”.

Subsequently in 2002, Dwight released his second album, 'Sleeptalking', under the Fierce Rabbit Records label. The Composers & Authors Society noted him as "a singer/songwriter whose brand of honest, soulful music and refreshing vocals, fuses varying hues of country, pop and R&B."

From London, he started-up his own record label 'Blk.25 Records' in 2014 and released his third studio album - 'Straw' in July 2015.

'Straw' lists 13 original tracks and features the vocals of Jo-Ann Pereira amongst a collaboration with a number of gifted musicians.

His tales are driven in styles reflecting influences from folk, sea-shanties, rock-&-roll and pop.

Born 9th October 1978 in Malaysia, Dwight Ian Pereira grew up in
K.L. during his first 7 years, before moving to Singapore. He emerged from a musical family and was exposed to musicians such as Charlie Pride, Johnny Cash, The Everly Brothers and Jim Reeves. He began singing publicly as a choir boy in Sts. Peter & Paul’s Church in Singapore, and started songwriting in his teens. An avid Michael Jackson fan, in 1996, he was awarded a SONY-sponsored all-expense paid trip to New York to watch the superstar in concert.
In 1999, after attaining his first architectural degree from NUS, he released his debut album entitled 'In Black & White'. The music magazine ‘BigO’, then described him as a musician who "brought a breath of fresh air into the local scene, demonstrating a facility for melody that is sorely missed in many local songwriters...(with) the vocal ability to bring out the best out of his melodies”.
Sheffield Tramlines Festival, 22 July 2012
In 2002, Dwight released his sophomore album, 'Sleeptalking'. Amongst local media reviews, ‘COMPASS’ described him as "a singer/ songwriter whose brand of honest, soulful music and refreshing vocals, fuses varying hues of country, pop and R&B".
In 2003, Dwight re-settled in Liverpool (UK) to complete his architectural studies. There, he formed a university rock band - 'Immigrant’ which played around Liverpool. In 2005, Dwight relocated to Sheffield for work, where he qualified as a registered Architect. He played extensively during his spare time there.
In early 2012, due to the economic recession, Dwight was made redundant from his job. He began dedicating all the more of his energy towards music. That summer saw him play half a dozen UK festivals. During this period, he also worked on home-recordings and developed music production notes.
In February 2014, when he secured a job in London, he adapted to his new environment. In April, he decided on the idea of a 'busking marathon’— playing 3 songs on the area outside every tube stop on the London Central Tube-Line, over a Saturday-Sunday weekend. It was exhausting and exhilarating, with memorable scuffles and inspirational encounters.
Jo-Ann & Dwight Pereira Tramlines Festival, 21 July 2013
In July 2014, Dwight sourced musicians to collaborate with, developed ideas and rehearsed with each one - to find a meaningful interpretation to his lyrics. In early 2015, from his rented bedroom off in East-London, he started-up his own record label: ‘B1k.25 Records’- to help promote his music. Its name is a reference to the block of flats on Owen Road in Singapore - within which he had grown up and his family had lived in for over 67 years.
His 3rd studio album —‘Straw’ has been over 2 years in the making, consisting of 13 new songs picked from over a 13-year period. A thoroughly humbling experience, Dwight believes that in many ways, the album wrote, interpreted and recorded itself. The artistes he worked closely with all contributed instrumentally to it arriving where it has.
The small role he played in the collage of the album was primarily to try help steer the sails in the direction of the prevailing waves and winds.
Inconspicuous, susceptible and receptive. Like straw.
Since the album release, he is thrilled to have been interviewed by the BBC in their Sheffield studios, and to have toured S.E.Asia. He is currently busy playing around London and hopes to tour Europe shortly.
Barnsley Festival, 22 June 2013
‘Straw’ was officially released by Blk.25 Records on 25th July 2015. CDs are available from selected retail outlets in every city he calls home; and online from Amazon.co.uk. Digital music is available from various online avenues.
