Reel 'n Black (IRL)
Ben Reel wird diesen Juli mit seiner Frau und langjährigen Backgroundsängerin Julieanne Black Reel durch die Niederlande und Deutschland touren. Julieanne ist auch Mitglied des Gesangstrios „The Moon Sisters“. Seit seinem Debütalbum `This Is the Movie' aus dem Jahr 1999 hat sich Ben von Album zu Album neu erfunden und wurde im Laufe der Jahre von verschiedenen Musikstilen beeinflusst. Ein Kritiker sagte: „Er scheut sich nicht, ein paar Folk-, Soul- und Reggae-Vibes einzubringen, die wiederum an John Hiatt in seinen besten Zeiten erinnern“. Ein anderer beschreibt ihn als „irgendwo in der Mitte zwischen Rock und Jazz oder einem Sound, der manchmal an Dylan und die Band erinnert“.
Er wurde auch als irischer Springsteen bezeichnet, und es wurden Vergleiche angestellt, wonach seine Stimme wie der Geist von Roy Orbison klingt, aber Ben Reel ist ganz und gar sein eigener Mann.
In seiner nunmehr über 25 Jahre andauernden Solokarriere hat Ben Reel mit zahlreichen hochkarätigen Fernseh- und Radioauftritten bei der BBC, RTE und dem niederländischen NPO-Radio weltweite Anerkennung gefunden. Er unterstützte Jools Holland und The Cranberries und arbeitete musikalisch mit Namen wie Hal Ketchum & The Blockheads zusammen. Er hat mit einigen der besten Musiker aus Nashville wie David Olney und Nanci Griffiths zusammen geschrieben und live gespielt.
The Nashville Calling" war der Titel seines 9. Studioalbums, das im März 2020 veröffentlicht wurde. Produziert von Will Kimbrough und Tommy Womack und mit Garry W Tallent am Bass von der legendären E Street Band. Aufgenommen im Skinny Elephant Studio in Nashville, erreichte das Album Platz 1 in den Euro Americana Charts, gewählt von angesehenen DJs und Kritikern in ganz Europa.
In der Vergangenheit wurde Ben für einen offiziellen Showcase bei der Folk Alliance in Memphis ausgewählt und tourte im Doppelpack mit Tommy Womack (Nashville) in den USA und Großbritannien sowie mit dem legendären amerikanischen Folk-Sänger/Songwriter Eric Andersen in Großbritannien und den Niederlanden. Während seiner Zeit in Nashville wurde er mehrmals eingeladen, im berühmten Bluebird Cafe zu spielen. Er spielte auf großen Festivals wie Jamming@Hippie Jacks (USA), New Orleans Musikfestival in Furth (DE), Musiktan Festival in Bilbao (ESP). Haarlem Jazz & Huntenpop (NL), Robin Hood Folk Festival (UK), Kilkenny Roots, Cork Jazz & Electric Picnic (IE). Ben hat sich eine treue Fangemeinde in verschiedenen Ländern der Welt erspielt und ist nach wie vor einer der am härtesten arbeitenden Troubadoure der Welt.
Im Januar 2026 wird eine neue Ben Reel LP erscheinen, sein 12. Studioalbum mit dem Titel „Spirits not broken“.

Ben Reel will tour Netherlands & Germany this July with his wife and long standing back vocalist Julieanne Black Reel. Julieanne is also a member of the trio singing group "The Moon Sisters".
Since his debut album `This Is the Movie’ back in 1999, Ben has reinvented himself from album to album, influenced by different styles of music over the years. As one critic said, " He's not afraid to throw in some in folk, soul, reggae vibes, which in turn call to mind John Hiatt at his best". Another describes him as “somewhere in the middle ground between rock and jazz or a sound that is sometimes reminiscent of Dylan and the Band”. He has also been described as the Irish Springsteen and comparisons have been made about his voice sounding like the ghost of Roy Orbison but Ben Reel is very much his own man.
In a solo career which spans now over 25 years, Ben has received worldwide critical acclaim with numerous high profile TV/Radio appearances like BBC, RTE and Dutch NPO Radio. Supporting the likes of Jools Holland, & The Cranberries and he has collaborated musically with such names as Hal Ketchum & The Blockheads. He has co written and performed live with some of Nashville's finest such as David Olney & Nanci Griffiths.

He has graced big festivals such as Jamming@Hippie Jacks (USA), New Orleans music festival in Furth (DE), Musiktan festival in Bilbao,(ESP). Haarlem Jazz & Huntenpop (NL), Robin Hood folk festival (UK), Kilkenny Roots, Cork jazz & Electric Picnic (IE). Ben has built a loyal fan base in various countries around the world and continues to be be one of the hardest working troubadours around.
January 2026 will see the release of a new Ben Reel LP, his 12th studio album titled “Spirits not broken”
