The Original Five (SWE)

The Original Five mischen traditionellen Bluegrass mit eigenem Material, bekannteren, publikumswirksamen Country-Songs und musikalischen Ausflügen in die Volksmusik und den Gospel. Ein breites Spektrum an musikalischen Erfahrungen, die durch den soliden Bluegrass-Hintergrund der Band zusammengehalten werden.
Die Band begann 2010 als Jam-Session im Far I Hatten im Folkets Park in Malmö, aber seitdem hat die Musik sie zu Festivals und Gigs in ganz Europa und natürlich in das Heimatland des Bluegrass, die USA, geführt.

Fünf eigene Studioalben und viele Kooperationen mit anderen Musikern im Laufe der Jahre, z.B. ein Live-Album in Zusammenarbeit mit einem Schweizer Kammerorchester.
In den letzten zehn Jahren bestand The Original Five, vielleicht eines der kleinsten Ensembles der Welt, aus:
Dan Englund - Kontrabass, Gesang
Jonas Svahn - Akustische Gitarre, Gesang
Johan Malmberg - Banjo, Gesang
Daniel Olsson - Dobro, Gesang 

The Original Five veröffentlichen Dated & Jaded : The Pelarne Sessions am 1. März
Wenn man in erster Linie eine Live-Band ist, steht man vor dem Problem, die Energie der Live-Performance auf Platte zu bannen. Dieses Mal haben The Original Five einen neuen Weg gewählt. Anstatt in ein professionelles Studio zu gehen, liehen sie sich eine Aufnahmeausrüstung und fuhren zu einer abgelegenen Hütte tief in den schwedischen Fichtenwäldern. Die Hütte von Johans Großvater wurde in ein provisorisches Aufnahmestudio verwandelt. Während draußen der Schnee fiel, saß die Band zusammengekauert mit einem Wald von Mikrofonen in dem kleinen Raum.

Das Ergebnis war diese sechs Titel umfassende EP mit dem Titel Dated & Jaded: The Pelarne Sessions. Die Möglichkeit, den gesamten Prozess zu kontrollieren, bis zur Übergabe an Dave Glasser von Airshow für das Mastering, hat zu einem Produkt geführt, das die Band wahrhaftiger repräsentiert als alle vorherigen Aufnahmen. Die Unmittelbarkeit, Einfachheit und Energie der gemeinsamen Aufnahmen in diesem kleinen Raum erwecken das Gefühl einer Live-Performance.

Dated and Jaded : Ein selbstmitleidiger Honky-Tonk-Titel, geschrieben von Dan Englund
Polska till Carla : Instrumentalstück mit starkem Einfluss schwedischer Volksmusik. Geschrieben von Daniel Olsson für seine erstgeborene Tochter.
Trafaria : Eine Feier und eine liebe Erinnerung an das erste Bluegrass Festival in Portugal. Geschrieben von Jonas Svahn.
Dr. W. Nose : Ein Uptempo-Instrumental für die Fans des Dobro-Virtuosen Daniel Olsson.
Miami, My Amy : Keith Whitleys großer Hit aus den 80er Jahren.
How Mountain Girls Can Love : Die EP schließt mit diesem Bluegrass-Klassiker von The Stanley Brothers.

The Original Five mixes traditional Bluegrass with their own material, more well-known, crowd-pleasing country songs and musical excursions into both folk music and gospel. A wide spectrum of musical experiences that are held together by the band's solid bluegrass background.
The band started in 2010 as a Jam session at Far I Hatten in Folkets Park in Malmö, but since then the music has taken them around to festivals and gigs all over Europe and of course the homeland of bluegrass, the USA.
Five own studio albums and many collaborations with other musicians over the years, e.g. a live album in collaboration with a Swiss chamber orchestra.
For the past decade, The Original Five, perhaps one of the world's smallest uintests, has consisted of:

The Original Five releases Dated & Jaded : The Pelarne Sessions on March 1
Whan you’re primarily a live band you face the problem of catching the energy of the live performance on record. This time The Original Five chose a new route. Instead of going in to a professional studio they borrowed recording gear and headed to a remote cottage deep in the spruce woods of Sweden. Johan’s grandfather’s cottage was transformed into a temporary recording studio. While the snow fell heavy outside the band sat huddled together with a forest of microphones in the small room.
The result became this six track EP named Dated & Jaded : The Pelarne Sessions. The possibility to control the whole process, until turning it over to Dave Glasser at Airshow for mastering, has resulted in a product which represents the band truer than any of the previous recordings did. The directness, simplicity and energy of recording together in that little room revokes a feeling of a live performance.
The EP contains six tracks:
Dated and Jaded : A selfpitying honky-tonk tune written by Dan Englund
Polska till Carla : Instrumental with a strong influence from Swedish folk music. Written by Daniel Olsson for his first born daughter.
Trafaria : A celebration and a dear memory of the first ever bluegrass festival in Portugal. Written by Jonas Svahn.
Dr. W. Nose : An uptempo instrumental for the fans of dobro virtuoso Daniel Olsson.
Miami, My Amy : Keith Whitley’s great 80’s hit.
How Mountain Girls Can Love : The EP closes with this classic bluegrass tune from The Stanley Brothers.
