Moritz Gamper

Der aus der kleinen Stadt Meran in Südtirol stammende Moritz zog zunächst nach Südamerika, dann nach Spanien und ließ sich schließlich in Wien nieder. So wie sich der Singer-Songwriter die Zeit nahm, den Mittelpunkt seines Lebens zu finden, so verhält es sich auch mit seiner Musik: Viele Experimente und Ausflüge in die unterschiedlichsten Genres waren nötig, um etwas zu finden, das eigentlich schon immer da gewesen war. Oft braucht man nur eine Akustikgitarre und eine unverwechselbare Stimme.

Vor fast 10 Jahren veröffentlichte Moritz zum ersten Mal Musik. Jetzt fühlt es sich an, als käme er nach langer Zeit wieder nach Hause. So schließt sich der Kreis; denn genau wie damals ist die Musik ehrlich, roh und bewusst keineswegs perfekt.

Es sind viel einfachere und handgemachte Songs, die Moritz in seinem Heimstudio aufgenommen und produziert hat. Sie erzählen von längst vergangenen Schicksalen und fühlen sich gleichermaßen an, als wären sie im Mississippi-Delta der 1930er Jahre oder am einsamen Lagerfeuer in den heimischen Bergen. Was Moritz neben seinen Gitarren und dem Singen liebt, ist das Erzählen von Geschichten und das Schaffen von Poesie. Realität und Fiktion verschmelzen. Eine Prise Delta-Blues, eine Portion Desert-Blues und etwas Folk erinnern an Moritz’ große Vorbilder. Wenn man Moritz einmal persönlich kennenlernt, wird unweigerlich klar, dass man seiner Musik glauben kann.

Originally from the small town of Meran in South Tyrol, Moritz first moved to South America, then to Spain, and finally settled in Vienna. Just as the singer-songwriter took the time to find the center of his life, it is the same with his music: a lot of experiments and excursions into a wide variety of genres were necessary to find something that had actually always been there. Often all you need is an acoustic guitar and a distinctive voice. Moritz released music for the first time almost 10 years ago. Now it feels like coming home again after a long time. So the circle closes; because, just like back then, the music is honest, raw and consciously not at all perfect.

They are much more simple and handmade songs that Moritz recorded and produced in his home studio. They tell of long ago fates and feel equally as if they were in the Mississippi Delta of the 1930s or at the lonely campfire in the local mountains. What Moritz loves, besides his guitars and singing, is telling stories and creating poetry. Reality and fiction merge. A pinch of Delta Blues, a portion of Desert Blues and some folk are reminiscent of Moritz's great idols. Once you get to know Moritz personally, it inevitably becomes clear that you can believe his music.
